NYC Welding Scar

Welding Scar

I forgot to note the full text of the scar on this plate. But I have been looking at a lot of high contrast portraits and street photography lately and when I saw this on the way home today it jumped out at me.

This is really on a relatively micro scale, a small detail in the (scaffolded) steps connecting Bennett and Ft. Washington avenues. Just playing with the light. Or better "Chasing the Light," which I read earlier this summer for inspiration.

Update: NYC ELECT

(Electric, of course!)

  1. That is nice MIke, I love high contrast images and this is a good one. I like that you got NYC in there..so it places where the image was taken. To me this is typical NYC, harsh yet beautiful. Well done.

  2. Thanks Gerry - My sentiments exactly. When I first moved here I was fascinated by the steam coming out of the steam vents that crop up from time to time, for unknown reasons -

  3. I like shots like this too. Small details of our surrounding cities. Once again, I wonder how many millions of people would walk past these things, and not see them?

The slight raised welds give just enough shadow for an excellent effect. The light is just right.

I like the large pure black shadow cast. Adds great depth.

    More please.
