Cables

They look so delicate at this distance. Cables suspending the George Washington Bridge, sunset highlights.

Obsolete

Well, almost, anyway. Not everyone has a  cell phone these days, and you can't exactly make an anonymous call from a cell phone.

Another night in the city.

Wrought Iron & Lock

Nice long tunnel of ornamental work in a Washington Heights neighborhood.

Motion

Daily assignment for photo club. US half-dollar coin. Would have liked an image of the head in this position (JFK), but that would take another 100 attempts to get it right...

Lighting Assignment Final Draft

Strain

You can click the link and see a picture of the (crude, DIY) setup. Learned a lot doing this, mostly though just how freaking hard it is to do those product shots that you see routinely in magazines and other ads that make it look so simple and easy - and I suppose with practice it is simple and easy for the professionals.

A number of elements in this picture I don't like, but I will try to apply those lessons learned to a new project instead of going back and refining this one again.

Weights

These are weights on the front end of a tractor that keep it from tipping up as the tractor is pulling a heavy load or a stump out of the ground, etc. Again courtesy of Parks Department landscaping depot, yesterday.

Chain in Red

Detail of some piece of landscaping equipment from the Parks Department yard in Central Park. Took a long walk today and will display a few pics over the next few days if nothing else comes up. My lighting project is still ongoing, so I hope to have something to show tomorrow on that.

Pier 54

The indecipherable lettering reflects the changing corporate management of the pier mid-20th century. Read about it here. This is the pier from which the Lusitania launched its final voyage, and the Titanic survivors arrived here as well.

Drained Fountain

Not a bad metaphor for how I'm feeling, photographically. The heat spell doesn't help - you do not want to be outside at all with this kind of air quality, but that's just an excuse. I will keep chugging along....relief on Sunday/Monday.

Metal Lines

Hard to describe what this is exactly, but it's an exterior stairwell and this is the landing. There's another door above the red door that gives color to this image. It provides access to the water tank, and possibly other things, at the top of my building.

Message in a Bottle

A little color today for a change. I've been going out with the intention of shooting b&w but this one just looks better in the subtle bronze and stainless steel tones. Interior of Private Passage by Malcolm Cochran, a giant bronze and zinc wine bottle made to look like the cabin of a luxury liner on the inside.

Sail

I'll leave this one as an abstract for the moment, will post a follow up tomorrow putting it in some context, but I think the context really shouldn't matter - it works or it doesn't on its own.
