Upper West Side
OK, my last instagram post on this blog for a while - I just figured out the embed problem and wanted to post one.
UPDATE: Figured it out - instagram feed now in sidebar.
UPDATE 2: Snapwidget directs to horrid ad-filled page.
UPDATE 3: Websta is a little better, so I'll keep it. You can avoid websta by clicking on the "View on Instagram" icon instead of the photo. Websta does display the name of the instagram filter used, if any, in case you are curious about such things. There's a trending phenomenon called #nofilter but people cheat! Not only that, but you can manually adjust the image to create your own "filter" that shows up in the metadata as "no filter." The never ending debate...

Costco
Playing with the ultrawide today, I like the distorted, elongated effect on the 18-wheeler. Storm moving in from the north (left side of the photo if that's not obvious).

East River Bridges
Manhattan Bridge. maybe the first in a series. My bike path around Manhattan takes me past several East River crossings, and it occurred to me how odd it is that there's only one bridge crossing on the west side of Manhattan across the Hudson (the George Washington Bridge, which I have shot extensively).

Another Sunset...
Another year. Another one rising. Let's hope it's a good one!
George Washington Bridge from the roof of my building. It was glorious. No, photos don't do it justice. Taken 2 days ago, but I wanted to post something finish off the year. Thanks to everyone who visits and comments!

The Modern
And clouds. One of two planned towers on this development project. This is the dramatic effect an ultra-wide is made for, I think. Exaggerated purple again. Thanks Blogger.

Postcard From Harlem
Harlem Meer & Education Center. Northeast tip of Central Park. With a layer of duckweed & algae covering most of the surface interrupting the reflections. Just putzing around with the wide-angle lens, which I've still not got comfortable with.

High Rise
Forgot the name of this building, part of a complex of contemporary designs along the west side of Manhattan in the 55-58th street area. Strikes me as a sort of retro-futuristic look...
Here's a second one, with a reflection of the first one...
Don't know why but when I upload these to blogger I'm seeing a distinct purple cast that isn't there in photoshop, so I don't exactly know how to get rid of it...
Update: Because this is bugging me...
Here's a screen shot showing the PS and Blogger versions side-by-side. Same image file.
UPDATE - Problem Solved:
In searching for a solution, I googled "purple color cast in blogger" and nothing came up. Then I noticed a different problem with washed out tonality in another photo - and googled a more general "poor image quality in Blogger" which led me to the solution. I had to go to google+ (which is intimately linked with blogger) and change my setting to turn off the "auto-enhance" feature.

Winter
A day late, but this was an assignment to shoot "winter." I saw this on the way home today and it seemed apropos.
UPDATED: Fixed some of the blue color cast and a couple of other problems with the original posting that bothered me.

Snowy Palisades
From yesterday, a little landscape. Looking up the Hudson River at the snow-covered tree tops along the Palisades disappearing in the fog. The color shift on the left is from the late afternoon sun finally peeking out way south of this point and coloring the clouds. You can see there's no snow on the trees this side of the hudson.

Mad Clouds
It's been like this for several days, terrible air quality as well. I guess we're paying for that relatively cool spring we had this year. I was playing around with a circular polarizer today, gave me a little bit more separation between the clouds and sky, still needed a good punch in software, though.
Roughly northern view across the Hudson into New Jersey. Take from approximately 86th street in Manhattan.

Sail
I'll leave this one as an abstract for the moment, will post a follow up tomorrow putting it in some context, but I think the context really shouldn't matter - it works or it doesn't on its own.
