Loosening Up

Sometimes I just need to turn off my brain and take pictures. I need to put the fun back in  photography and not take myself so seriously.

In that spirit, I have finally joined the instagram crowd. This will be a place to post casual photography, snapshots, and all the stuff that is just fun to shoot. For now they will mostly be from my cell phone, since that's the only way I know to get pics to instagram, and the easiest tool for walking around and snapping casual photos - no feeling conspicuous or self-conscious because of a big SLR. At the moment blogger is not allowing me to embed pics directly from instagram, not sure why.

This picture is from a little playground with a giant sculpture overlooking the Queensboro Bridge. Just a snapshot, but I like the two people sitting apart from one another - I wish the one on the left were not in the shade...

B-Sides: No Standing

Another oldie. Also from 2012.

B-Sides: Shopping Carts

A fleet of Costco shopping carts in the rain. I saw this idea a few months ago when I didn't have a camera, then a couple of days later I saw this post from s.c. collections and thought, what a strange coincidence. I was at Costco again last week with rain in the air, a fine windy drizzle/mist kept me from spending a lot of time on it (rain on the lens is a problem). This doesn't quite get what I wanted, but consider it a rough draft.

Fits this week's photo club assignment ("wet"), although it was taken last week.

Chain in Red

Detail of some piece of landscaping equipment from the Parks Department yard in Central Park. Took a long walk today and will display a few pics over the next few days if nothing else comes up. My lighting project is still ongoing, so I hope to have something to show tomorrow on that.

Metal Lines

Hard to describe what this is exactly, but it's an exterior stairwell and this is the landing. There's another door above the red door that gives color to this image. It provides access to the water tank, and possibly other things, at the top of my building.
