Lighthouse, Little Red

Sky drama today. Random raindrops falling, mixed with the sun peeking in and out of the clouds.

  1. Very well composed image. The sky has enough drama to add natural strength and power to the image. The city backdrop adds a little time-scale to the whole story.

I have noticed lately that many photographers are 'over processing' images... (pushing up the levels all the way to 11) ... so that they produce those pseudo HDR images with ultra contrast and hardened edges. It is partly because the software to apply these effects is now easily affordable. I have been guilty of this in the past, but now try to let the camera do most of the work, and only use subtle processing.

I always feel that your images are very natural in the way they convey the true image. I am not even sure if you have tweaked anything afterwards; but if you have, it is very subtle.

  3. Thanks guys. I try to roughly approximate the scene/subject as I experienced it - I mostly use the global adjustments in LR & PS, sometimes I use the graduated neutral density filter or dodge and burn, again going for a natural look. I shoot raw so some tweaking is almost always required.
