Pumphouse?

Pumphouse?

I think this was the old pumphouse. This is from my father-in-law's country home where I sepnt the last couple of days, in upstate New York. A dusting of snow is on the ground, which had mostly sublimed by today when we left. I will be posting a lot of pictures from here over the next few days, so a lot of rural, nature stuff in contrast to the more usual urban material.

I wanted to get some more dramatic flare from the sunlight in this one, but it didn't work out - it's kinda lame, really.

  1. Not lame at all in my book. Nice effect and the bright reddish light reflecting off the door of the pumphouse provides a spot of color that makes this image even more appealing. Also great detail in this and all your other shots.

  2. I had no idea New York had such beautiful surroundings. This shot is great. I love the draughtsman-like perspective on the brick hut, together with the natural vertical lines of the forest. Add the two land diagonals and the sun in the corner; you've ticked all the boxes!

I love this image, and you ought to be really proud of it.

  3. Great shot Mike, its great that you are showing people how wonderful NY really is. Even though I was born and raised in NYC ... there is so much more to NY then the city. By the way have you tried turning this image into B&W.

  4. Thanks guys, and yes, NY is a large state with a lot of variety of environments and settings - tremendous mountains, lakes, ocean, Niagara Falls, etc...Not that I get out that much to enjoy them, but they are all there:-)

And on your suggestion I tried black & white, but it falls flat...maybe because the flare washes out much of the contrast, which the color compensates for...I think
