No Electioneering

No Electioneering

Sign outside a polling place, Election 2012. In 5 languages, one of the things I love about NYC. Apparently the whole world is hoping the right guy wins :-)

All taken from my roof this afternoon, playing around with the telephoto in some of these, one obviously from the wide-angle.

Halloween Tree & Stairs

Halloween Tree

Into the Darkness

Fear of the dark, the unknown, fear of death, and denial of death. Or as my kids would say, it's all about the candy. But really, they enjoy the fear part too.

GWB Spotlights South

GWB Spotlights South

A cleaner look from the south side of the bridge pointing north-ish. I don't think they even use these things anymore, one unit from this array is missing entirely, and the bridge now has lights installed in the structure itself that are occasionally lit for special occasions.

Optical Illusion

Optical Illusion

Work is once again consuming my mind and the days are getting shorter. This one from the summer for the fun factor - at least I hope the illusion is immediately noticeable. Just don't look too long, it can give you a headache.

Knob

Knob

Or "wasteful gub'ment spending" from an earlier era, in the eyes of today's conservatives.

Another rarity, these old-fashioned City of New York Public School door knobs. As the doors are eventually replaced, these knobs wind up - where? A landfill, perhaps, or some antique dealer's shop? I only know they are replaced with generic industrial, sterile (from a design perspective) "modern" handles & knobs. My school has a few of these left on some of the doors that have not yet been renovated.

Hinge

Hinge

Very uncommon door hinge in this country, original from a building that went up in the 40s. Last time we had to replace one it cost about $175.00 - just the hinge, not installation. Anyway, I see I need to clean them, but I left it dirty for the effect.

Bent

Bent

Yesterday was the beginning of a series of detail shots from around the neighborhood, some indoor, but mostly outdoor.
