Unisphere

Unisphere

At Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York. Left over from the 1964 World's Fair. My first real visit to this park, I think I'll be going back soon...

I also took pics of the NY State Pavilion, which I'll post at a later time. But today I was just kind of awestruck at the structure, and I think the shots reflect that "wow, isn't this cool" kind of superficial treatment.

  1. Its also for sure a cool photo. The water gives just enough blur to wonder about the globe behind. Is it real or a shadow. Who knows.

  2. "Wow" doesn't even do this shot justice - this is an amazing image - ethereal and other-worldly. And it's enhanced by the presence of people to provide the human element and sense of scale. Nicely done, Michael!

  3. I have never seen this sphere before. I am amazed at the sheer size of it. I opened up your larger image file on your flickr page to get a better grasp of how the structure works... simply amazing. The water and the fine spray, together with the silhoutted figures give it a real other wordly look.

God, I wished I'd taken this photo. Excellent.

  4. Thanks guys! It is an awesome structure and I love how it was turned into a public sprinkler for kids (& photographers) to enjoy.
