190 Street

Just a quick test shot with a 10-22 ultra-wide zoom, this shot at 10 mm (16mm equivalent). I lost a little bit around the edges from lens corrections in lightroom (barrel distortion). No image stabilization, but I was able to shoot this at 1/5 sec and it's pretty sharp, plenty sharp for this kind of image - it's not macro work. I had just missed a train so the station is pretty empty....

Angles

Just walked past this otherwise completely boring and mundane apartment building on some street in Washington Heights with this extreme Flatiron kind of angle - it's a street with a sharp curve to it, so apparently the architect had to make the best of it.

Sky drama today. Random raindrops falling, mixed with the sun peeking in and out of the clouds.

Foggy Times

These were taken on different days, commuting along the Hudson to work. A lot of fog recently.

Update: I noticed this morning that the last shot was too blue, did a little color correction and re-uploaded.

Dandelions

When all else fails, shoot flowers. Actually one of those dull, flat, lifeless days as far as light goes - cloudy and gray. But good for portraits, even flower portraits.

B-Sides: Dogwood Days

Busy time of the year for me, big exam for some of my students on Monday, so a lot of stress and preparation. Happens to coincide, unfortunately, with spring performing arts events that these same students are involved in. Another B-side from last week in the interest of keeping up the momentum...

B-sides: Salt Reserve

NYC Department of Sanitation mountain of salt, replenished and ready for next winter. There is this inexplicable, perpetual pool of water outside the storage area, making for an unintentional reflecting pool.

Shooting through a chain-link fence is probably on one of those lists of clichés , but what the heck - everything's a cliché when there are probably close to half a million photos per minute uploaded to the internet.

St. Malachy's: The Actors' Chapel

My school (a performing arts school around the corner from the chapel) held a fundraiser at St. Malachy's last night. Saw this looking up from the pews.

Buoy & Fog

I will probably return to this scene the next foggy day to play around a bit with a longer lens and maybe a pop of flash to liven up the buoy-not sure how the fog will react, though. Hudson River, of course. Taken Thursday.
